Brazil’s antitrust regulator views the acquisition of Votorantim Siderurgia by ArcelorMittal as a complex issue, meaning that it may need more time to analyze the transaction and its potential economic impact.
The Brazilian regulatory agency asked for a more detailed study of the markets involved in the operation. If necessary, it will request a deadline extension for the analysis.
Both companies agreed on merge their long steel operations on February 23. As retribution, the Votorantim group will hold a minority stake in ArcelorMittal Brasil.
