DIRECTV and The Walt Disney Company have reached a preliminary agreement to resume the distribution of Disney’s linear networks and direct-to-consumer services, following an approximately two-week service disruption. As part of this agreement, Disney’s complete suite of linear networks has been reinstated for DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM, and U-verse customers. The companies are now working towards finalizing a new multi-year contract.Disney’s networks were taken offline on September 1 due to unresolved issues concerning fees and bundling structures between the two parties. In a joint statement, the companies announced, “Through this first-of-its-kind collaboration, DIRECTV and Disney are giving customers the ability to tailor their video experience through more flexible options… We appreciate the patience of all affected viewers and are pleased to restore Disney’s entire portfolio of networks just in time for college football and the Emmy Awards this weekend.”Key points of the agreement include the continued carriage of Disney’s entertainment, sports, and news programming under market-based terms, which covers Disney’s extensive linear portfolio such as the ABC Owned Television Stations, ESPN networks, Disney-branded channels, Freeform, FX networks, and National Geographic channels.Additionally, there will be options to offer various genre-specific packages—such as sports, entertainment, and kids & family—that include Disney’s linear networks, along with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming services (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+) will be part of select DIRECTV packages under a wholesale deal and will also be available on an a la carte basis.Furthermore, DIRECTV customers will gain access to Disney’s forthcoming ESPN flagship direct-to-consumer service at no additional cost once it launches. The material has been provided by InstaForex Company – www.instaforex.com
