The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Japan stagnated 0 percent in the fourth quarter of 2018 over the same quarter of the previous year. GDP Annual Growth Rate in Japan averaged 1.98 percent from 1981 until 2018, reaching an all time high of 9.40 percent in the first quarter of 1988 and a record low of -8.80 percent in the first quarter of 2009. Japan’s economy, the fourth largest in the world, is fully diversified and technologically advanced. Like in most developed countries, services account for the highest percentage of GDP (around 62 percent of GDP). Within services the most important once are wholesale and retail trade (around 7 percent of GDP) and real estate (around 6 percent of GDP). Manufacturing is the engine of the Japanese economy and accounts for nearly 22 percent of GDP. Construction also plays a significant role, accounting for around 5 percent of GDP.
