The four components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average that reported first-quarter earnings Tuesday are providing a net boost of about 47 points to the Dow’s price, with 3M Co.’s stock adding the most and Merck & Co. Inc.’s stock the only one acting as a drag. Shares of 3M rallied 4.7% to add about 49 points to the Dow, Pfizer Inc. rose 2.43% to add about 6 points and Caterpillar Inc. gained 0.7% to add about 5 points, while Merck fell 2.4% to shave about 13 points off the Dow to reverse earlier premarket gains.
