In May 2025, France’s government budget deficit decreased to EUR 94 billion, a marked improvement from the EUR 113.5 billion deficit recorded in the same period the previous year. This positive shift was largely due to an 8.9% increase in total revenues, amounting to EUR 141.0 billion, while expenditures fell by 3.3%, down to EUR 214.5 billion. Additionally, the Treasury special accounts, which manage the balance of targeted inflows and outlays, such as receipts from local government, showed a reduced shortfall of EUR 20.5 billion, slightly improved from the EUR 21.3 billion gap observed in the comparable period of the prior year.
