In May 2025, France’s business climate indicator experienced a slight decline, dropping to 96 from an adjusted 97 in April. This figure remains below the long-term average of 100, marking the lowest level since February 2025. The decline in business sentiment was particularly notable among manufacturers, dropping to 97 from April’s 100, and among service providers, where it fell to 95 from 98. In contrast, sentiment improved in the construction sector, rising to 101 from 97, and among retailers, increasing to 98 from 95. Additionally, the employment climate indicator decreased by 2 percentage points, from 97 in April to 95 in May, remaining below its long-term average over the past year. This downturn was mainly attributed to a reduction in the balance of expected staff numbers in the services sector.
