Romania experienced an increase in its annual inflation rate, reaching 5.45% in May 2025, up from 4.85% in April, which was the lowest in six months. This current inflation rate is the highest it has been since April 2024. The rise in inflation is attributed to increased costs in several categories: food prices climbed to 6.53% from 5.57% in April, non-food items increased to 4% from 3.53%, and service costs rose to 7.09% from 6.83%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices saw an uptick of 0.46% in May, following a slight increase of 0.07% in the previous month.
