In April 2025, retail sales in Romania exhibited a year-on-year increase of 3.1%, a deceleration from the 3.4% growth observed in the previous month. This represents the slowest expansion in retail activity since December 2023. The growth in sales of non-food products has eased to 6.7%, compared to 8% in March. Conversely, sales in the food, beverages, and tobacco sector experienced a decline of 0.7%, following a 0.9% increase previously. However, there was a rebound in automotive fuel sales, which rose by 2.8%, up from 1.9%. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales saw a 0.4% increase, recovering from the 0.3% decline recorded in the prior period.
