In Sweden, retail sales saw a decline of 1.8% in May 2025 compared to the same month the previous year. This downturn reverses a notably strong, downwardly revised increase of 4.9% recorded in April. It marks the first drop in retail activity since August of the prior year. The decrease is predominantly attributed to substantial reductions in the sales of durable goods, which fell by 1.5% following an 8.5% increase in April, and in consumables, which decreased by 1.4% after a 1.9% rise. On a month-to-month basis, retail trade saw a 4.8% decline, marking the first decrease in four months, succeeding a 1.5% increase that had been positively revised in the previous period.
