In April 2025, Switzerland experienced a 1.3% year-on-year increase in retail sales, marking a slowdown from the revised 2.1% growth seen previously and falling short of the anticipated 2.5% rise. This deceleration was predominantly due to a reduction in non-food product sales, which grew by 2.2% compared to 5.2% in March, with significant impact from the information and communication technology sector (which saw a 16.5% rise, down from 22.4%). In contrast, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco maintained their upward trajectory, increasing by 0.5% compared to 0.1% earlier. On a seasonally adjusted monthly comparison, retail sales slipped by 0.3% in April, offsetting a previously revised 0.2% gain recorded in March.
