In April 2025, manufacturing production in the UK experienced a decline of 0.9% compared to the previous month. This drop was more pronounced than the anticipated 0.8% decrease and follows a 0.8% reduction in March. Of the 13 manufacturing subsectors, output fell in eight, with transport equipment seeing the most significant decrease at 5.2%. This was trailed by declines in chemicals and chemical products (-2.5%), machinery and equipment (-2.1%), and textiles, wearing apparel, and leather products (-2%). Conversely, there were noteworthy gains in basic pharmaceutical products (up by 5.2%), electrical equipment (up by 3.3%), and coke and refined petroleum products (up by 1.5%). On an annual basis, the manufacturing output rose by 0.4% in April, meeting expectations and recovering from a 0.8% decline in March.
